The south-west of Corfu is an area of long sandy beaches, gentle rolling countryside, and limited tourist development. Tiny Maltas is about as far away as you could get from the mass-market, despite boasting one of the longest sandy beaches on the island. Surrounded by thickly wooded hills, Maltas has no nightclubs, fast-food outlets or high-rise hotels, and comparatively few tourists ever find the place.
